Jane Update: Day 21

It's amazing to think that 3 weeks ago our little angel Baby Jane arrived. As you can see from the beautiful picture above, her cheeks are filling out and she's been gaining a lot of weight. As of Saturday she was up to 3 lbs 11.3 oz, nearing a pound above her birth weight. Over the past 10 days, she's been gaining 1+ oz per day, which is typical and very good.

On Friday she ate for the first time by herself, as the nurse fed her with a bottle and she took the entire feeding that way (which is not typical for the first attempt). They will proceed slowly with the feeding, as it tires babies this small out. They start once a day for a while to see how the baby does.

All has not been perfect the past couple of days. Jane has struggled getting enough oxygen and they are watching her closely to make sure it's nothing more serious than the usual ups and downs of a preemie.

For most of Jane's time in the NICU, she's shared a room with 2-3 other babies; right now she's sharing her room with 5 other babies. They have had an influx of preemies (including an adorable set of twin girls next to Jane), and her NICU room is almost always filled with the sounds of alarms, nurses and parents. Jane doesn't seem to notice at all as she spends most of her day sleeping.
