Jane update: Day 16

Jane is over three pounds! Actually on Sunday she measured in at a whopping 3 lbs 3 oz! She's huge now.

Of course, she's still tiny, but I can't really express how nice it is to have her growing.

One of the nurses made a sign on Saturday to comemorate Jane hitting three pounds.

On Sunday after church, Lena and Daddy went to the hospital to visit Jane. Lena loves her new little sister, singing her two songs ('ABCD' and 'Whenever I Hear'), and told her a story. She was wide awake while we were there, and I think it was the first time Lena had really seen her awake and active.

People frequently ask the question of when Jane will come home. The answer is: we don't know. When she originally arrived at the NICU the doctor told me that the safe timing to think of was her due date, which was Sept 24. The nurses later told us that it's often earlier than that, but it really depends. Even though Jane has progressed very well, she still has a long way to go.

As an example of that, Jane has started having more apnea spells where she forgets to breath and it causes drastic drops in her heart rate and oxygen levels. She may have to go back on a dose of caffeine (Dad suggested intravenous Dr Pepper) in order to stimulate the brain. It is extremely common for preemies to have this, but it is a good reminder to us that even though she's doing very well, she still has a lot of development ahead of her. Despite the desires of our hearts, she won't be coming home for weeks to come.
