Jane Update: Days 5, 6, 7

Jane is doing very well. She came off of air and oxygen earlier today (Thursday) and is now breathing on her own for the first time since her birth (when she breathed on her own a little before being hooked up to all the stuff). She's eating well and progressing as she should. She's also off the billy ruben light, so she can start wearing clothes (modesty is the best policy).

Dad, Mom and Grammy (Kathleen's mom) have all had a chance to hold her, and Lena loves touching her and keeps asking when she's coming home. We also wish we knew the answer, but the doctors won't know that for some time yet. They have mentioned that it could be as long as her original due date (Sept. 24), but it could also be earlier if she's doing well and progresses well.

As one of the doctors said today, Jane's medical condition has become a little boring, and boring is good. We love our little girl, and with Kathleen home, we are now making daily trips to the hospital to visit her, usually in shifts. This is likely to be our life for weeks to come.

Here's Dad changing Jane's diaper for the first time. He complained about the lousy Pampers diapers the whole time. The first change went smoothly; even with all the wires, it's easier than changing a squirmy 18 month old. (Video coming soon.)

Mom holding Jane. You can see her tiny little left foot sticking out of the blanket. As you can see, she has almost no fat on her body.

I am so glad things are going well!!
Please drop the kids off at my house whenever you need to head to the hospital.
I can't get over how small that sweet Jane is.
