Jane Update: Day 12

Twelve days into this crazy journey with Jane, and everything seems to be going very well. One of the doctors mentioned that Jane is quite a miracle; few babies born this early have everything go so smoothly. We only have to look around the NICU to know how lucky we are with Jane's health.

As of Wednesday, Jane had reached her birth weight of 2 lbs and 13 oz and was eating very well. The only concern was a slight heart murmur, which the doctor said is common in preemies. If they detect it again, they will run some tests. If not, they will mark it down as nothing more than a blip.

We make our daily trips up to the hospital to visit her, though not as often as we would like. Adam tries to go up in the mornings before work (on the days he's not taking Lena to preschool), and Kathleen tries to make two trips a day (when physically able). Lena is getting there about everything other day, and we try to get Kathleen's mom there as often as possible.

We've become NICU pros. We can take her out of her isolette (the enclosed bed) by ourselves, and the fear/apprehension that filled us when walking in there the first few days has been replaced by a sense of familiarity. I wouldn't exactly call it home, but it is the place where we have spent all of our time with our precious Jane.

This is a dark photo taken with Adam's cell phone, but it does give a good view of her features. She has big eyes, long skinny fingers, and looks a lot like her sisters.

Jane is wearing clothes now that most of the tubes and wires have been removed. Of course, even preemie clothes are way too big.

Lena absolutely adores her new little sister and asks every morning when we can bring Baby Jane home. She's always disappointed when we say not today.

Kathleen's mom took this picture -- Jane's isolette is not near natural sunlight, so unless they moved her to a corner office, I'm not sure how the lighting worked on this angelic shot of our little miracle baby. Regardless, I like the picture.
