When Lena was about a year old, our friend Lauren came and took some more pictures. You can see Lena on the slide above, and our little family on it below.

Every year in Appleton there is what they call Octoberfest. It's filled with beer, sausages (even live ones), and live music. Our church sponsors a booth selling elephant ears (they were delicious). Here is Kathleen and Lena with the famous Milwaukee Brewers sausages.
While Daddy was away on business, Kathleen and Lena went with our friends Brad, Megan and Lucy to the pumpkin patch. This is one of my favorite shots of our little angel.
Later in October Kathleen's brother Dan got married. Lena couldn't walk yet, but our sister-in-law's sister walked Lena around for a while. Lena was in heaven. Later Lena got very clinging to Dad (after the dancing started), so we danced.
During that same trip, Lena and her cousin Julia got dressed into their Halloween costumes. Lena went from a giraffe in 2006, to an octopus in 2007. Not sure if that's an upgrade or not, but the costume was cute. And because she couldn't walk yet and traveled by scooting on her bum (she didn't do a traditional crawl), this costume looked awesome as she scooted around.
The picture below was the result of Lena's first peanut butter sandwich. Suffice it to say, we've stayed away from peanut butter ever since.
Lena's second Christmas was so much fun. Though she didn't quite get the opening the presents thing, when we opened her doll Ella below, she understood that it was hers. We made the mistake of having that as the first present, and she ignored all the others for a while. Ella is still in Lena's tight-nit group of toy friends which include Elmo, Grover and Baby (another doll).
We spent Christmas 2007 with my family in Houston, Texas. Below is Lena and Mimi. The best story from this trip was a game we played called fruit basket turnover. It's a kids game where you divide into fruits, and when you're fruit is called you have to exchange seats with another fruit of your kind. The person without a seat gets to call the fruit. But if they call 'Fruit basket turnover' then everyone has to get up and move seats. I had never seen Lena so excited. Every time someone called 'Fruit basket turnover', Lena would run around the room (well, walk really, she had taken her first steps a few weeks earlier) and scream. After everyone sat down, she would clap. Good times.
